Hi There!
My name is Roxanne and I’m many things.. I’m a settler on Treaty 6 territory and homeland of the Metis, I’m a wife, a mom, a dog lover, a recreation therapist, an instructor, a research associate, but mostly just a human! I’ve always cared for people and taken delight in building connections with them. I started my career as a paramedic in rural Saskatchewan in 2009. In 2013, I was experiencing my own mental health challenges and was looking for something more from life. I decided to change paths and went for my diploma in recreation therapy, not fully knowing what the profession was. I have been passionately sharing the effects of recreation therapy and working in the field since 2015. In 2021, I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation. I am part of Saskatchewan Association of Recreation Professionals (SARP), the Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association (CTRA), and I am a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC). I engage in continuing education to upkeep my knowledge and skills in the profession. I am also a research associate and casual instructor with Saskpoly Tech for the Therapeutic Recreation Diploma Program.
I am passionate about plants, doing my part for the planet - choosing less plastic and reusable options, supporting local Saskatoon businesses, and my dogs. I enjoy art and physical activity, these have been the most healing activity for me. I’m a fan of movies, documentaries, thrillers, horror, and comedy; a wide range! I enjoy spending time with my husband, daughter, and friends - I’m lucky to have such sincere people in life who support me.
Of all the dreams I’ve chased, I am most excited about this one.. working with people in Saskatoon and local businesses providing and educating about recreation therapy. Thank you, thank you!
